Originally from the Charleston area, Dr. Summerfield received her bachelor’s degree from Sweet Briar College in Amherst, VA and graduated veterinary school at Ohio State University in 2011 before returning home to West Virginia. Her interests include internal medicine and companion animal behavior with a focus on puppy socialization and common behavior problems in dogs and cats. She spends time at home relaxing with her cats, Isabel and Bernadette, and enjoys training and competing in AKC agility, obedience, and conformation with her three Shetland sheepdogs Remy, Gatsby and Clint. She has also added a ball python named Lizzie in 2021.
Dr. Summerfield is a member of the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB) and the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT). She is also an approved Canine Good Citizen evaluator for the American Kennel Club.
